Statement

My personal fascination with silk painting developed ten years ago and I believe is a real benefit to children who rarely have the opportunity to experience this unique medium. I believe the sense of fun achieved through the creative process helps to strengthen ongoing studies in children and encourages positive influences and exchange of ideas. Silk painting captivates and promotes attention to the task in hand. I have facilitated many workshops with children in galleries, the community and the school attended by my own children. I have the sensitivity to encourage and develop creative skills and make art accessible by putting into practice methods of gentle teaching in a classroom environment. Silk painting workshops vary due to timescale, numbers of pupils, budget and if artwork is to be individually produced or a large collaboration. Typically, I will demonstrate the basic skills and processes required and encourage pupils to experiment in order to strengthen understanding. An introduction may require between one to two hours. I prefer to work in small groups with very young children, as constant supervision is usually needed.
