StatementApples and Snakes is a national performance poetry organisation. As with all areas of our work, we aim to make poetry popular, relevant, cross cultural and accessible to the widest range of people. We work in early years to develop children’s imagination, sense of play and fun using story, rhythm and rhyme. We hope to engender a love of words which will last a lifetime. Our diversity of workshop leaders have run sessions in nurseries, community centres, libraries and for Sure Start.
The processes depend on what kind of artist we are providing and what kind of setting. Usually a storyteller will use games, visuals and stories to capture the child’s imagination. Some work with music, dance or puppetry. Poets tend to focus more on word play, rhyme, rhythm and repetition such as call and response. Our priority is to make sessions fun and interactive. |
