Statement

I am a visual artist working within education and the community, using and combining different media according to the needs and intersts of the participants - including mark-making, construction with/exploration of natural and recycled materials and video/photography.
I work with children of all ages and access needs, but am particularly active in early years and primary settings.
I have worked with the 5x5x5=creativity research project for the last 3 years, an action research project working with pre-school children and practitioners to support child-led learning through creative investigation and reflection, facilitating individual children's creative and educational development through observation, artistic intervention and partnership working.
I also work as a mentor and consultant, contributing to training events and conferences, focusing on the role of the arts and creativity in early years education, and the importance of creative play and access to outdoor space for environmental and personal awareness.

Experience

I have experience of working within museum and gallery education, playschemes for children with learning disabilities, and arts projects within pre-schools and day-nurseries, as well as schools.
I have a BA(Hons) in Fine Art (Sculpture) and am working towards an MA using research carried out through my work on the 5x5x5=creativity project, looking at the role that creative investigation of one's local environment can play in contributing to ecological learning and well-being, with particular reference to early years education.
I have acted as a mentor for artists working in the early years, and for early years practitioners working with artists and supporting child-led learning (informed by the work in Reggio Emilia, 5x5x5 etc)
