Statement

I am an experienced and qualified independent Early Years Music Specialist. I work in a variety of childcare settings on both a weekly/regular visit and "one off" workshop basis with Early Years Foundation Stage children and their parents or carers. I also provide training workshops for childcare professionals and have experience of evaluating Early Yers music projects.

My music sessions and workshops are based on the Kodaly approach to music education which focuses on engaging children in enjoyable, practical, carefully structured musical activity relevant to their physical, intellectual and emotional stage of development. This philosophy is based on teaching, learning and understanding music through the experience of singing. It is child centred using traditional singing games and rhymes to encourage each individual to find and develop a singing voice and to experience firsthand the joy of music.
Teaching music this way with young children has a huge impact on the emotional, social and intellectual aspects of the child's development by for example:-
    • encouraging the development of communication skills
    • developing motor skills & co-ordination
    • building self confidence
    • increasing oral & memory skills
    • developing listening & concentration span
    • improving spatial skills
    • developing social skills - listening to each other, taking turns etc
    • exploring different settings both real & imaginary through music & song
    • provding opportunities to express different emotions & imaginative ideas
    • and is also great fun.
